Think of a headpiece and imagine it to be in its simplest possible form. Now slowly add some stylish trinkets to the picture. Perhaps having colorful feathers would help brighten the mood of the image. Did you like what you see as you imagined the plain headpiece turn into a fun and fashionable one? If it left you wanting for more, then you are lucky to find a whole lot of this in Tiara, a line of hats and headpieces, created by Tracy Dizon.
Does her name ring a bell? You might’ve seen this “Spunky Momma” on the reality fashion television show, Project Runway 2. Now we would know more about one important factor which gave Dizon the will to pursue her dream of being in this business, her education.
“Working in the fashion industry has been my career option since high school” said Dizon, who studied in an exclusive all girls-school. She definitely knew what she wanted even at an early age. She even had her own style. Customized vintage heir looms were what she would usually use back then. Dizon also shared two of her fashion idols, namely, Betsey Johnson and Tsumori Chisato. She looked up to them in terms of their aesthetics and career framework and also because just like her, they are proud moms. Jojie Lloren is also a fashion designer in our country whom Dizon sees as an inspiration.
Tracy Dizon was a BS Clothing Technology student from the College of Home Economics. Being a UP Diliman graduate was the stepping stone to everything she wanted to achieve. “I take pride having learned the things the hard way” Dizon states as she explains how UP honed her to be the best, literally. Furthermore, UP taught her to work all the way from the bottom to the top. I like how she clears it up that unlike what other people do, she does not rely on connections. Also, whenever she is offered a project, she always looks back to the days when she was a UP student. It is truly inspiring to know that she thinks of her career and her craft as things that she could give back to UP, especially for what the university has done to her.
Fashion and education are both important to Tracy Dizon. She pointed out that fashion, as a course, is not just about dressing up, but rather, a discipline. Dizon really shows how grateful she is of her UP education and how passionate she is with her career, especially with her Tiara. She still sees everything as a challenge, being a mom and being a designer. But she continues to strive for the best as she reinvents and learns new things.
I am glad to have the opportunity of discovering these things about her. And like what others say about how a part of your being reflects in your work, we would definitely know more about Tracy’s quirky personality in her line, Tiara.
